This mudroom/home office area worked when there were backpacks, sports equipment, and school papers, but had turned into a dropzone for all the things that didn’t have a home now that the kids are grown. And, their small, reach-in pantry wasn’t cutting it for adults who love to entertain.

We transformed this space into a multi-functional pantry perfect for food storage and entertaining essentials! 🥂🍽️ We created a small office nook for work necessities and turned the original pantry into a streamlined utility closet.

We spent the long weekend at the river with family. Last Labor Day was one of the last times we were all together with my brother-in-law. After going through an unusual amount of loss at the end of last year, I realized how hard it is for those we leave behind to deal with the “business“ side of death while we’re grieving.

This is where my family enters our house. And leaves all the shoes. “But Mary, you’re an organizer. Don’t you have a system in place?” Yep. But creating a system and getting everyone to use it are two different things.

They drop their shoes in a pile two or three steps away from the existing shoe baskets. 🤦🏻‍♀️

So, to make it as easy as possible, I tweaked the system. They can stop at the door and get their shoes in the bin without any extra steps.👟👟👟

When we emptied the existing baskets, we were able to get rid of several pairs of shoes. I used a large crate and put it right beside the door. It’s big enough for all of the shoes and requires no extra effort. Fingers crossed, I’ll be updating you with a success story soon. Because no matter how easy a system is, you have to use it for to work.

Did you know that Saturday, January 6 is National Technology Day? Neither did I 😆 but I thought it would be a good opportunity to show you how I improved some of my tech storage. I had all of my extra cords and miscellaneous tech things corralled in a lidded bin, but still had to dig through when I was looking for something.

I started by sorting everything in the bin and getting rid of items I no longer needed. I used reusable magnetic silicone ties for the cords and put everything in a bin with labels. Now instead of digging through, I can grab and go!

I may not be able to completely remove that stress but I can share some tips to help make your moving, packing, and unpacking process a little easier. Don’t forget to save this post for later!

1️⃣ Before you pack, declutter!
Before you pack up your home, take some time to get rid of any unwanted items. If you don’t use it now, you won’t use it in your new space.

2️⃣ Pack your items by room!
When packing up your home, pack one room a time to ensure there is no confusion when it comes to unpacking. *Don’t forget to label the outside of your moving boxes with each room so that you can easily find what you need when you need it.

3️⃣ Unpack by zones!
Create zones in each space and work on unpacking your items accordingly. This makes sure like items are kept together and will make you feel accomplished as things come together.

4️⃣ Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
When it comes to moving, you need all hands on deck. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends and family for help! Still sounds overwhelming? Invest in a professional organizer (like me) to come in and unpack for you.
